Ballroom Dancing brings out the social dynamics and best of everyone who likes to “move.” With practice, we will get to know how to Cha-cha, Fox-trot, Swing and more. For each dance we learn, the first 5 basic steps of that dance are taught.  This class is for singles, couples, beginners or those who need a refresher course.  NOTE:  This schedule represents a change from the original published schedule.  These dates are the updated correct dates.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to create your own animated gifs? Edit sound to go along with your animations? Then this week of camp is perfect for you! We will be learning how to use an assortment of software platforms to create our own short animations. We will talk about best practices within the industry. This is a great beginner course for anyone wanting to get started with animation. Class limited to 8 students. Register by June 16 to avoid $25 late fee.

Actors & actresses, this dance workshop is for you!  Get ready to audition for our upcoming 2019-20 Pied Piper Theatre productions or your school musical and learn the basic moves that are used by choreographers on the Broadway stage.  For those with dance experience, this is a good way to brush up on your skills.  So… bring your jazz shoes and tap shoes and be prepared to dance like a Broadway "star"!

Great illustrators masterfully bend realism to suit their visual storytelling and capture the reader’s imagination. Learn techniques, tips and tricks from published children’s book illustrator Emily Thomson. Topics will include the use of thumbnail sketches, creation of polished line drawings, inking and hand coloring techniques. You will take away a better understanding of how to convey a character’s personality and develop your own style. Bring some of your favorite animal or human photographs to use as visual references; we will have more for your choosing, too. Materials will be provided via supply fee. Register by June 16 to avoid $15 late fee.

Imagine creating your very own handmade book inspired by materials, techniques and traditions that date back to ancient Chinese and Egyptian times! We will take a look at some of the earliest surviving inscriptions for idea development.  Students may choose a favorite proverb or write an original expression of truth, then illustrate the concept through a series of bound pages. The construction of these books will consist of natural and modern bookmaking materials, and could include parchment, leather, wood and even clay. Amazing lifetime keepsakes! Register by June 30 to avoid $25 late fee.

Let’s reveal your artistic capabilities by refining your photography and graphic design skills.  Using your digital camera or other camera-equipped media device, we will explore and photograph the real historical backdrop of Old Town Manassas. The Center’s Computer Lab will be pressed into service to manipulate favorite photos into vivid personal compositions using a variety of software platforms. Learn mixed media techniques to apply images to alternative surfaces for a fabulous photo finish. Class limited to 8 students. Register by July 7 to avoid $25 late fee.

Summer is the perfect season for sultry beats, Latin music & movement!  Award-winning ballroom dancers Alan Golombek and wife Thuy will guide students through 6 lessons starting with basics and ending with more advanced steps.  Come practice the timing and footwork of this very festive and popular Latin Dance.

Are you interested in creating better event documentation videos for social media and personal use? This course will introduce best practices for filming in public and techniques for video capture and editing. Part one will take place Friday August 2, beginning with a discussion of the ethics and responsibilities of filming in public settings, followed by video capture of the community event the “Dog Days of Summer” 1st Friday , a very popular dog-friendly and dog-centric celebration all around our Old Town Manassas neighborhood. Part two will take place the following week in the Center’s Computer Lab where students will share their footage and each create their own “Dogumentary” of the event. Widely available video and sound editing software will be utilized on PCs in the Computer Lab. We will introduce location scouting, image stabilization, interviewing, filming collaboration, voice over and more. Students must bring their own cell phone for video capture with minimum 20 GB free memory space available to hold video footage, and an empty 8gb flashdrive. Class limited to 8 students. Register by July 28 to avoid $25 late fee.
