What do you know about cartooning? Join our mini-camp and improve your character illustration skills and personal style. We will look at eastern and western comics, and then use hand drawing, digital tablets, and cartooning software to illustrate a page, just like the professionals!  Course Fee includes tuition and supply fee.

Explore the endless possibilities when using fluid and dry media together to make beautiful art. Working with watercolor, gouache, brushes, pencils, pens and ink we will blend line, stroke, wash, transparent and opaque color to create compelling compositions with subtle and bold textural variation. Subject matter options may vary among a variety of landscapes, seascapes, florals, still-life, and abstraction. Watercolor paper will be provided by the instructor. Supply list will be provided upon registration.

Course fee includes $12.00 supply fee.

Jump into an adventure and into the world of watercolor. Beginners will learn the basic tools and techniques of the medium; more advanced students are encouraged to explore new methods, materials and styles. You can grow as an artist with the class since it is offered throughout the year. A different approach or subject matter is presented each session. Watercolor paper will be provided by the instructor, along with individual instruction geared for your comfort level. Supply list will be provided. Course fee includes tuition and paper supply fee.

Versatile and forgiving, water-based acrylics may be manipulated with a wide array of methods, applied to many different surfaces, and modified with various additives. We will explore application techniques, surface variations, and the effect of medium additives to stretch the reach of our creativity. Small class size allows for individual instruction: students new to acrylics will learn introductory basics; more advanced students will further develop skills and explore new directions. The class may be taken multiple times; new subject matter is presented in each session. Canvases and boards will be provided by the instructor; registrants will receive a list of materials to bring to class via email after registration.  Course fee includes tuition and $12 canvas fee.

This class will provide opportunity to draw the unclothed figure with guidance from the instructor. Live models will pose for both quick sketches and more detailed studies. We will explore gesture drawing, and the movement of line, physical proportion, and the interplay of light and shadow on the human form. Please bring your artist sketching pencils and charcoals, and an 18" x 24" drawing pad. Program is geared toward students with previous drawing experience: advanced beginners and intermediate students welcome. Course fee includes tuition and a $45 model fee.

Manga and Anime cartoon enthusiasts – here is your chance to design and build your own character in two and three dimensions! We will start with small sketches, learn to enlarge via image projection, make a pattern, and hand sew a soft sculpture representation of your creation. Learn some basic hand sewing techniques in this unique class!  Course fee includes tuition and $20 supply fee.

Do you own a Digital SLR camera but feel you aren’t taking advantage of its capabilities? This class will help you understand what your camera has to offer. We’ll cover issues that are not unique to digital cameras, such as basic camera operations, exposure, light metering, depth of field, ISO settings, as well as issues that are unique to digital cameras such as navigating, jpeg versus raw, setting white balance, color correction, understanding the histogram and more. Each class will include photo walks in our neighborhood for guided practice working with your camera settings. All brands of DSLR camera are welcome.

What’s behind Manga & Anime? Why are these so popular? We will look at Japanese cartooning, learn a bit about the history & techniques and apply our skills into making creative and original Japanese frame-boards. Hand drawing and digital tablets may be utilized with a variety of widely accessible software programs, including Krita™, Manga Studio™, Paint Tool Sai™, and MediBang Paint Pro™.  Course fee includes $20 supply fee.
