Explore the endless possibilities when using fluid and dry media together to make beautiful art. Working with watercolor, gouache, brushes, pencils, pens and ink we will blend line, stroke, wash, transparent and opaque color to create compelling compositions with subtle and bold textural variation. Subject matter options may vary among a variety of landscapes, seascapes, florals, still-life, and abstraction. Watercolor paper will be provided by the instructor. Learn fundamental Asian brush painting techniques while painting on rice paper, silk and other surfaces! Award-winning artist Jean Seelig will introduce the 4000-year-old philosophy, traditions and techniques of Sumi-e brush painting as she teaches students to capture the essential spirit as well as the appearance of natural forms within their designs. One stroke techniques will be demonstrated and practiced during the class. Motifs will vary with the season.
Course fee includes tuition and $15 supply fee.

Wild and wonderful color! Learn a variety of techniques, color mixing principles, and special effects in acrylics. Students new to the medium will learn the basics, while more advanced students will enhance skills and explore new directions. New subject matter is presented in each session. Canvas will be provided by the instructor; registrants will receive a list of materials to bring to class via email after registration.  Tuition includes $12 canvas fee.

Jump into an adventure and into the world of watercolor. Beginners will learn the basic tools and techniques of the medium; more advanced students are encouraged to explore new methods, materials and styles. You can grow as an artist with the class since it is offered throughout the year. A different approach or subject matter is presented each session. Come indulge design impulses in our Friday night studio art class!  Find plenty of individual instruction and opportunities to try new media and techniques; projects explored may vary with each student's interest and skill level. Learn to create the illusion of space and depth in your drawings. We will study how an object’s appearance is affected by position and distance from the viewer, using various approaches to linear and atmospheric perspective. This class is recommended for those who have taken Drawing Skills or equivalent introductory instruction. Course fee includes tuition and $20 supply fee.

Versatile and forgiving, water-based acrylics may be manipulated with a wide array of methods, applied to many different surfaces, and modified with various additives. We will explore application techniques, surface variations, and the effect of medium additives to stretch the reach of our creativity. Small class size allows for individual instruction: students new to acrylics will learn introductory basics; more advanced students will further develop skills and explore new directions. The class may be taken multiple times; new subject matter is presented in each session. Canvases and boards will be provided by the instructor; registrants will receive a list of materials to bring to class via email after registration.  Course fee includes tuition and $12 canvas fee.

If you love pure color, you will love pastels! Learn about different pastel supports (types of papers and boards) while exploring a variety of techniques in this 4 hour workshop. Dive right in without needing paintbrushes, solvents or a palette - no other medium allows you to apply rich color to the support as quickly as you can with pastels. Students new to the medium will learn basic tools & techniques, more experienced students will further develop skills and explore new directions. Supplies will be provided.
