Starting with the basics of stage lighting systems, this workshop at the Kellar Family Theater takes the participants through all the skills and knowledge to be part of a lighting team. Topics will include: how to identify and select instruments, read light plots and paperwork, set up and run a light board, hang and focus instruments, and create a variety of looks and cues. Safety and professional standards are emphasized.  Bring a pair of work gloves and an adjustable crescent wrench.

Do you love to draw and want to explore line, shape, texture and value in a manner that conveys drama and mystique? Try the visually powerful medium of charcoal. We will experiment with additive and subtractive applications using charcoal pencils and sticks, and learn blending tools and techniques to manipulate the medium for a wide variety of effects. We will also work a bit outdoors so set-up, tools & techniques of plein air drawing may be introduced. Register by June 2 to avoid $15 late fee.

Great illustrators masterfully bend realism to suit their visual storytelling and capture the reader’s imagination. Learn techniques, tips and tricks from published children’s book illustrator Emily Thomson. Topics will include the use of thumbnail sketches, creation of polished line drawings, inking and hand coloring techniques. You will take away a better understanding of how to convey a character’s personality and develop your own style. Bring some of your favorite animal or human photographs to use as visual references; we will have more for your choosing, too. Materials will be provided via supply fee.
