Improve your fundamental drawing skills with a wide array of lessons which will include the use of traditional art mediums (pencil, marker, pastels, etc.) and technology (drawing software, tablets.) Learn fundamental Asian brush painting techniques while painting on rice paper, silk and other surfaces! Award-winning artist Jean Seelig will introduce the 4000-year-old philosophy, traditions and techniques of Sumi-e brush painting as she teaches students to capture the essential spirit as well as the appearance of natural forms within their designs. One stroke techniques will be demonstrated and practiced during the class. Motifs will vary with the season.

Visual art journaling is an exciting frontier for self-expression. The art form combines art and words, providing a place to access creative energy, stretch image-making capabilities and explore techniques, tools and processes to create very personalized artwork. Artists will experiment with graphite, colored pencil, caran d’ache crayons, paint, collage and printmaking techniques to learn the basic skills of art journaling. Visual Art Journals emphasize the use of color (lots of color!), texture, shape, line and image. No previous artistic experience required as there are no rules, just self-expression!  Course fee includes tuition and $25 supply fee.

This workshop will focus on color blending, shading and textural variations possible with an array of application techniques. Versatile and forgiving, water-based acrylics may be manipulated with a wide array of methods, applied to many different surfaces, and modified with various additives. We will explore application techniques, surface variations, and the effect of medium additives to stretch the reach of our creativity. Small class size allows for individual instruction: students new to acrylics will learn introductory basics; more advanced students will further develop skills and explore new directions. The class may be taken multiple times; new subject matter is presented in each session. Canvases and boards will be provided by the instructor; registrants will receive a list of materials to bring to class via email after registration.  Course fee includes tuition and $12 canvas fee.
