Ages 5-7
July 1-12
M-F 10:00am - 12:30pm

For a recipe of fun add a dash of fantasy, a pinch of adventure, and sprinkle liberally with fairy dust for this magical journey into musical theatre for ages 5-7.  Footlights & Fairy Tales introduces the young actor to basic performing skills through movement, music, and imagination.  Children have fun acting out a simple play based on a childhood tale or short story.  Family and friends are invited to a performance on the last day of this two week acting adventure.


Ages 9-14
July 8-12

Imagine creating your very own handmade book inspired by materials, techniques and traditions that date back to ancient Chinese and Egyptian times! We will take a look at some of the earliest surviving inscriptions for idea development.  Students may choose a favorite proverb or write an original expression of truth, then illustrate the concept through a series of bound pages. The construction of these books will consist of natural and modern bookmaking materials, and could include parchment, leather, wood and even clay. Amazing lifetime keepsakes! Register by June 30 to avoid $25 late fee.

Instructor: Martin Cervantez

Step into the 3rd dimension as renowned artist Martin Cervantez leads students through the multi-faceted process of making art from found objects and non-traditional media. Explorations of composition, rhythm, texture, and depth will combine with the engineering of assembly and attachment utilizing the instructor’s fascinating collection of components. All materials will be provided via supply fee.  Register by June 30 to avoid $20 late fee.

Camp fee includes $25.00 Supply fee.

Artist Martin Cervantez is a former Artist in Residence at the U.S. Army Center of Military History where he was responsible for capturing the Army's story on paper and canvas. Current artwork transitions to dynamic abstract creations in two and three dimensions.  This summer Martin shares his passion for visual expression in two sessions at Windy Knoll, providing a vivid introduction to the elements of design through abstraction. These programs are excellent for portfolio development, or just for the joy of creating art with the instructor’s guidance.

Age 8-15
(2 weeks) July 8-19
M - F 1:30-5pm

Musical theatre hits the stage in this premiere program at the Kellar Theater.  Drama, music and dance come together as students work on an entertaining new musical production.  Participating young actors will showcase their talents with final performances on Friday, July 19 at 5:30pm.  All students must be available for the final performance.

Instructor: Mike Flynn

Join artist Mike Flynn & learn to paint outdoors at beautiful Windy Knoll Farm in Nokesville. Working both in the field and within an onsite studio, students will take inspiration from nature, regardless of weather.  Set-up, tools & techniques of plein air painting will be introduced. Learn from Mike as he demonstrates and paints throughout the experience. All materials/gear will be provided via supply fee.  Register by June 30 to avoid $20 late fee.

July 15-19

Instructor: Amanda Shaw

Explore the visual splendor of summer in full bloom! We will create 2-D and 3-D art inspired by nature’s lush diversity. Projects may include symmetrical insects, multi-media butterfly mobiles, big, beautiful flower sculptures and fabric art. Much more awaits you so come join us for a week of creativity! Register by July 7 to avoid $20 late fee.

Instructor:  Lydia Bratton

Let’s reveal your artistic capabilities by refining your photography and graphic design skills.  Using your digital camera or other camera-equipped media device, we will explore and photograph the real historical backdrop of Old Town Manassas. The Center’s Computer Lab will be pressed into service to manipulate favorite photos into vivid personal compositions using a variety of software platforms. Learn mixed media techniques to apply images to alternative surfaces for a fabulous photo finish. Class limited to 8 students. Register by July 7 to avoid $25 late fee.

Camp fee includes tuition and $10 supply fee.

Martin shares his passion for engaging and surprising the viewer through the manipulation of acrylic paint. Learn textural tools and tricks, the peaceful practice of meditative dot painting, and experience the endless possibilities of this versatile medium.  All materials will be provided via supply fee.  Register by June 30 to avoid $20 late fee.

What do you know about cartooning? Learn the fundamentals and improve your character illustration skills and personal style. We will look at eastern and western comics, and then use hand drawing and cartooning software to illustrate an exciting story or page, just like the professionals! Register by July 14 to avoid $25 late fee.

Bring your imagination to a musical theatre adventure of fun and creativity.  Students will develop their acting talents through theatre games, storytelling, improvisation, and character development.  Enjoy learning songs and dances while working on a short musical production to be performed on the final day of the camp for family and friends.
