Events & Programs

Founded in 1984 by a group of artists and art lovers, the Center for the Arts aims to enrich the quality of life in the Northern Virginia suburbs through performances, gallery exhibits and arts education. A theater, an art gallery, classrooms and administrative offices are located in the Center’s  home in the historic Candy Factory in Old Town Manassas.

Ages 15 & up
(6 Weeks) Feb. 10- March. 16 
Wed. 6:30–8:30pm

Instructor: James Lawrence
This class will provide an intro to drawing the clothed human figure. Live models will pose for both quick sketches and more detailed studies. We will work from photos as well, exploring gesture drawing, and the movement of line, physical proportion, and the body’s balance in various action and dynamic poses.
Course Fee includes tuition and $20 supply fee.

(3 Weeks) Feb. 3 - 17

Wed. 7:00 - 9:00 pm
For actors of all levels, this class will rediscover the basics of acting: intentions, opposites, relationships, and humor. Develop your acting tools through improvisation, character development, scene study, and creativity. Learn to engage your character to make confident and strong choices in developing a scene through new skills.

Ages 16 & up
(6 Weeks)  Feb. 10- March. 16  
Wed. 7:00–9:00pm

Instructor: Emily Thomson
This class is designed for the beginner. Take this opportunity to work step by step in non-toxic, solvent-free walnut oil paints to achieve a completed landscape painting. Color mixing, composition, technique, and material properties will be addressed. You will leave class with the knowledge to continue working on your own in walnut oils. Bring your favorite landscape photograph to use as a visual reference. Supply list will be provided. Course Fee includes tuition and supply fee.

Dance Programs

Join us for the fabulous dance sessions one Sunday of each month from 4-6pm at the Center for the Arts. Beginners and advanced dancers are all welcome.

Arts on the Go

The Arts on the Go project consists of three self-contained interactive exhibits, each with a distinct theme.  Two modules (Habitats and Energy Matters) have been designed for use in elementary schools, and a third module (PowerUP!) has been created for middle school students.
